Tell me about the materials you use…
Leather cord
My bolo leather cord (braid) is crafted from high-quality leather, ensuring durability and flexibility and is free of all the nasty stuff like lead, mercury, formaldehyde, chromium VI, cadmium etc .
I have tried and tested many types of round leather cord over the years and have found, in my opinion, Mediterranean leather cord is the best. Made in Europe from European hides, this quality cord is strong, matte in texture and is uniform in diameter and colour.
Wooden beads
The majority of wooden beads used in my makings are handcrafted from reclaimed timbers sourced from Kalgoorlie Goldfields, Western Australia and are oiled using environmentally friendly and food safe oil.
You can read more about my beads on my blog.
Sandalwood
I source my sandalwood beads from one of the largest and most reputable suppliers in India.
For thousands of years, sandalwood has been used in incenses and part of many religious, cultural, and spiritual practices. The aroma of sandalwood is known to calm the mind, promote focus and general wellbeing
Copper
I hand make all my jump rings and pins for my mozzie coil holders from recycled copper wire. I source lengths of copper cable from local scrap metal yards. Once the insulation is stripped back, the beautiful copper wire is revealed.
Lava
Lava stone beads are made from the cooled molten lava that once erupted from a volcano. The beautiful black, porous stone is shaped and smoothed into the beads we adore.
Because of its strong connection to the earth, lava stone is known for it's grounding and calming qualities and is also regarded as a symbol of fertility, endurance and strength.
African turquoise
Although it is called African turquoise it is actually a form of jasper that is mined in Africa. Because of its makeup and inclusions, African turquoise is actually a much harder stone than traditional turquoise, which makes for great every day wear.
African Turquoise is believed to enhance encouragement for growth, development and positive change, opening the mind to new ideas and new possibilities. It is known to help ease mood swings, encourage acceptance and soothe feelings of emotional aggravation resulting in a more optimistic attitude towards life.
Pebbles
I source my pebbles both locally and internationally. Each pebble is selected carefully and hand-drilled.
Rub a drop of oil onto the pebble and remove the excess with a soft cloth to enhance the colour. I use coconut oil, however I understand mineral oil is also a popular choice.
